I am a passionate occupational hygienist who has 16 years’ experience in the field working in the steel, chemical and aerospace and power systems sectors in companies such as BP, Tata Steel, Huntsman, Rolls-Royce and Johnson Matthey. My current role as the Group Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Health Manager at Johnson Matthey gives me a broad supporting role assisting the different sectors of J.M. in implementing good health risk management practice throughout the 14,000 strong population through working in the Group Environment, Health and Safety department. My special interests cover a wide range of topic areas including hand-arm vibration, noise, chemical exposure, asbestos, legionella and strategic planning. I hold a 1st class BSc in Environmental Science majoring in Occupational Hygiene from the University of Bradford and an MSc in Workplace Health from the University of Nottingham.

I have worked in recent years on assisting BOHS with their new five-year strategy, organising and chairing international conferences and focusing on board member development. In my spare time, I enjoy going camping, walking and exploring with my wife and two sons as well as playing numerous sports. I am passionate about the profession of occupational hygiene and BOHS itself. Giving something back to the profession that has given you so much is a no brainer. Alex would like to see the BOHS Diploma in Occupational Hygiene become the global standard for all hygienists worldwide and occupational hygienists employed in all major industrial and manufacturing sectors.
