What is the purpose of the Faculty?
FAAM’s aim is to help ensure asbestos professionals can operate with the relevant levels of competency and expertise so that the ongoing issues caused by asbestos can be reduced. These key issues include:
- Asbestos still kills around 5,000 workers each year
- Around 20 tradesmen die each week as a result of past exposure
- The UK has one of the highest rates in the world of mesothelioma – a type of cancer linked to asbestos exposure
- Cancer Research UK stated there were over 2,500 deaths from mesothelioma in 2014 (with 94% of cases being deemed preventable)
