Everything we do at the British Occupational Hygiene Society is guided by our mission, vision and approach.

• Our mission is to safeguard current and future worker health through the effective management of workplace environments.
• Our vision is of a world where work does not cause ill-health.
• Our approach is led by principle, informed by science, enabled by professionalism, and guided by good sense.

We continue to focus on preventing harm at source.

This means:

• Designing out exposure wherever possible
• Reducing risks before they affect health
• Anticipating and addressing future workplace hazards
• Supporting proportionate and effective control of risks
• Ensuring workers are protected at all times

We recognise that achieving this vision requires collective effort. We work with members, partners, regulators and industry to influence change and promote good practice across all sectors.

Our focus for 2026–2030 is to strengthen the role of prevention in protecting worker health and to position BOHS as a leading voice in shaping the future of workplace health.

We will do this by:

• Promoting prevention-first approaches
• Supporting professional leadership in occupational hygiene
• Contributing to policy and public debate
• Building capability across the profession
