The British Occupational Hygiene Society, a leading scientific charity and the Chartered Society for Worker Health Protection has issued interim advice on vaccination in the workplace.

With the Covid-19 vaccination roll out progressing fast and care homes hitting the government’s target of occupants being offered or having the vaccines administered, the advice aims to help employers who may wish to clarify the impact of vaccines on their risk assessments and how they should factor in vaccine uptake into the protection of workers,

Kelvin Williams, the Society’s President commented: “BOHS welcomes the achievement of the 15 million vaccination target. The timetable for easing lockdown restrictions is being closely watched with high expectations and some employers are wondering if and when they might be able to relax some rules. The BOHS Covid-19 Expert group is monitoring the situation and has issued this interim Advisory Note which we hope will serve to support our members with clear advice at this time”.

The advice addresses the role of vaccines in protecting workers and reducing the impact of transmission of COVID-19 in the workplace and provides answers on whether employers can rely on vaccination as a control measure, based on our current state of knowledge and taking into consideration all available data and government guidelines.

Τhe BOHS COVID-19 expert group will keep this information under review and issue advisory notes as the science progresses. The advice is freely available at the BOHS Covid HubGuide on Vaccination in the Workplace.
