FAAM Asbestos Conference 2024: Leading the Way in Asbestos Control and Management

The Faculty of Asbestos Assessment and Management (FAAM), the UK’s professional standards body for asbestos scientists, and the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS) are proud to announce their seventh annual Asbestos Conference, taking place on 8-9th October in Sheffield. This year’s in-person event will see leading researchers, academics, practitioners, and regulators from around the world gathering to discuss the latest in asbestos assessment, control, and management.

With the UK falling behind the European Union in asbestos protection, the conference aims to address the urgent need for stronger asbestos management and further reduction of the acceptable exposure levels for workers and provides an essential platform to drive forward much-needed change.

The conference programme features UK and international speakers, delivering global insights through plenary talks and technical sessions. Attendees will also benefit from CPD opportunities and networking with the largest and most diverse group of professionals in the asbestos industry.

The FAAM Asbestos Conference offers an international perspective, setting it apart from other industry events. With an emphasis on scientific innovation and global collaboration, the programme will highlight the latest research, policy developments, and advanced techniques in asbestos control.

“At FAAM, we believe that sharing knowledge on an international level is essential for more effective controls and management of asbestos and in order to protect workers health and minimise the exposure risks. This year’s conference will offer a complete learning experience, focusing not just on what is happening in the UK, but on lessons we can take from global developments to make real progress,” said the FAAM Registrar, Jonathan Grant.

This year’s conference highlights include:

  • Leading experts from around the world will present on asbestos risk assessment, control measures, and future regulatory needs.
  • The conference offers significant opportunities to gain CPD credits, with sessions tailored to provide in-depth learning for professionals in all sectors of the asbestos industry.
  • The largest gathering of professionals in the asbestos industry, providing exclusive opportunities for attendees to network and collaborate with global leaders in the field.

“The FAAM Asbestos Conference is a vital event in the asbestos industry calendar, offering the UK an opportunity to catch up with European standards and lead the way in global asbestos management,” said the Society’s CEO, Prof. Kevin Bampton. “We need to prioritise asbestos protection in the UK, and this conference provides the perfect platform for professionals to come together, share insights, and advocate for stronger regulatory measures to address the ongoing asbestos crisis”.
