BOHS Annual Awards: Recognizing excellence in Protecting Worker Health
The British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS), the Chartered Society for Worker Health Protection, is proud to announce the winners of its prestigious 2024 Annual Awards, celebrating outstanding contributions and excellence in occupational hygiene. The awards ceremony, held on 19th September at the Brandon Hall Hotel in Coventry, honoured those who have made remarkable contributions in protecting worker health.
The BOHS awards are designed to celebrate, reward, and stimulate excellence in the field of worker health protection. Each year, the Society recognises outstanding individuals and initiatives that have made a remarkable contribution to the improvement of health within the workplace.
Occupational hygienists play a critical role in protecting workers from harmful exposures to hazardous substances and environments. Every day, these dedicated professionals save thousands of lives by identifying, evaluating, and controlling workplace hazards. Their expertise not only prevents workplace illnesses but also significantly contributes to the well-being and productivity of the workforce. At a time when nearly 2 million people in the UK are suffering from work-related health issues, with direct costs exceeding £1 billion annually, recognizing the work of these dedicated professionals has never been more crucial.
BOHS President, Parmjit Gahir, said, “These awards highlight the critical role occupational hygienists play in our society. They are the unsung heroes working behind the scenes to ensure that workers can return home healthy each day. The UK’s health and social care systems are heavily burdened by poor workplace health protection, making it essential to celebrate the achievements of those who strive to make a difference.”
This year’s awards honoured the following individuals and initiatives:
- Ted King Award: Bishwajoy Dutta – Recognizing the top candidate of the year who has achieved the BOHS Certificate of Operational Competence in Occupational Hygiene.
- David Hickish Award: Jans Babkevics – Celebrating the best candidate of the year who has attained the BOHS Diploma of Professional Competence in Occupational Hygiene.
