In Case You Missed Them…
Over the last year FAAM has run a series of free one-hour webinars to discuss matters associated with the changes taking place in the EU asbestos workers protection directive (AWPD).
The AWPD will instigate a x10 reduction in the occupational exposure limit (OEL) and a move towards electron microscopy analysis of air samples. While stressing this is not something that the UK must follow, it understandably creates a situation for discussion, on how best to protect workers and the role of air monitoring to check controls are effective.
These have taken on the overall title of “Asbestos Control Limits: A Discussion:” and the following webinars have been carried out.
EU Changes. 19/6/24
When do we Really Need to Measure the Air Concentration? 17/9/24
Thinking Outside the Box To achieve a Valid OEL.
Respiratory Protection and the OEL. 4/2/25
Following the HSE Research Summit in March we also did a webinar to discuss some of the priorities discussed at the meeting.
Research Priorities 1: How can FAAM contribute? 8/4/25
Others remain to be discussed but time and the summer season means that examining some of the other ideas will not now take place as planned. However, we will resume the “Asbestos Control Limits: A Discussion:” theme starting in September with the following titles.
PCM v TEM: the UK experience for monitoring removal workers.
PCM v SEM: EU experience for monitoring removal workers?
But first, we are planning an OEL Discussion webinar: PCM vs TEM on Wednesday 17th September 2025, keep an eye on the BOHS events page for further information and the chance to join us.
It is both fun and a challenge doing live webinars, with the likelihood that if it can go wrong, it will at some point!
However, the slick and professional outputs so far can be viewed on You tube by clicking on the link below.
We hope that you can join in the next webinars, they are designed to both inform and allow interaction between the FAAM membership.
As time and events allow, we hope to expand the range of the webinars over the next year. Watch out for email communications from marketing@bohs.org for details of joining the next live webinar this September.
