Technical Assessor – Occupational Hygiene

We are seeking an Independent Analytical Chemistry Technical Assessor specialising in Occupational Hygiene. Our external Technical Assessors play a vital role in the UKAS assessment process, providing the essential expertise needed to conduct thorough and reliable evaluations of testing laboratories across the UK.

Ideal candidates will have experience in occupational hygiene and meet the following criteria:

  • A comprehensive understanding of quality control across a range of relevant analytical techniques.
  • Experience working in an ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited testing laboratory.
  • Knowledge of sampling and sample handling procedures relevant to occupational hygiene.
  • Familiarity with national and international standard methods and specifications (e.g., MDHS, BS, EN, ISO, ASTM methods) for occupational hygiene sampling.
  • Expertise in analytical procedures for various types of occupational hygiene samples, including the determination of composition and chemical or physical properties.
  • Proficiency in Analytical Quality Control (AQC) techniques, such as spike recovery, surrogate standards, and Shewhart charts.
  • Knowledge of relevant (Certified) Reference Materials.
  • Understanding of validation techniques, particularly those used within the sector.

 

Key skills:

  • At least five years of practical experience in occupational hygiene.
  • Experience in the chemical analysis of occupational hygiene samples, whether through direct industry experience or a broader chemistry background with occupational hygiene analysis knowledge. Assessors should be well-versed in occupational hygiene testing methods and the associated regulations.
  • Possess up-to-date, detailed knowledge of industry standard methods and sector-specific schemes relevant to your expertise.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with laboratory staff, management, and clients at all levels.
  • Proven experience working within, and contributing to, an ISO/IEC 17025:2017 quality system.
  • Experience in internal or external auditing would be advantageous.
