We are now looking for five occupational hygiene professionals to retrain as Specialist Inspectors and join us on a full-time, permanent basis.

You’ll be supported through a Specialist Training Programme (STP) to gain the skills and expertise to become a specialist inspector. You will enrol on the STP and undertake a combination of study, practical experience and a final assessment ensuring you are equipped to operate at the forefront of your specialist area.

The Role

As a Specialist Inspector, you will complete the STP and assess and regulate workplace health risks to ensure hazardous substances are effectively controlled.

Working within a specialist team, you will provide expert advice, enforce regulations, influence policy and ensure employers comply with the law.

You will provide technical expertise on occupational hygiene topics, such as COSHH, legionella, and asbestos, to regulatory inspectors and serve as an expert witness in legal cases.

Additionally, you will contribute to the development of operational and technical policies to clarify legal standards and improve workplace health across sectors.

Your role will also involve:

- Collaborating on projects to review and inform health and safety policy
- Leading initiatives that influence strategic stakeholders, industry campaigns, and public awareness

Please note, you will be required to enrol in the Specialist Training Programme (STP).

About You

To be considered as a Specialist Inspector, you will need:

- In-depth knowledge and practical experience in occupational hygiene
- Experience in identifying occupational exposure control issues and solving problems
- The ability to analyse gaps in compliance with the law by comparing conditions found in workplaces with minimum legal requirements and to support legal action to avoid further risk
- A BOHS Certificate of Operational Competence in Occupational Hygiene
- To be a current professional member of the British Occupational Hygiene Society Faculty of Occupational Hygiene at a minimum grade of Licentiate or Specialist Licentiate Grade (i.e. LFOH or LFOH(S)) or higher
- To be willing to become a Chartered Member of BOHS through a supported development programme within two years of completing your HSE Specialist Training Programme

Please note, you will be required to inspect and visit sites across Great Britain. This will require regular travel and occasional overnight stays.
