The Role

As a Senior Scientist, you will lead scientific work focused on asbestos and exposure measurement, supporting our regulatory, investigative and research efforts.

Carrying out both site-based and laboratory investigations, you will generate, interpret and communicate research data that supports the implementation of our Control of Asbestos regulations.

You will lead regulatory, forensic and investigative projects that straddle laboratory and on-site work, and provide key scientific advice focused on workplace exposure measurement and interpretation. Alongside producing scientific outputs, you will ensure knowledge sharing is prevalent, as well as mentoring colleagues and developing the technical capability of the team.

Please note: this role involves regular travel, including overnight stays for site visits and meetings.

As part of your role, you will be required to work with asbestos in controlled laboratory environments and on-site, including wearing close-fitting respiratory protective equipment (RPE) and undertaking face-fit testing and relevant health surveillance.

About You

To be considered as a Senior Scientist, you will need:

  • Experience of leading and delivering site and laboratory-based scientific work, to investigate workplace exposures or support regulatory, forensic or investigative work, including the generation, validation and interpretation of analytical or research data
  • Experience of communicating scientific information through reports, publications, presentations or other methods to technical and non-technical audiences
  • The ability to design, plan and manage scientific projects, including preparing proposals or business cases and delivering work to agreed time, quality and customer requirements
  • The ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, follow documented procedures, maintain scientific and quality standards, and undertake continuing professional development
  • A degree (or equivalent) in a suitable science subject such as chemistry, materials science, environmental science, geology, forensic science or a related discipline
  • The BOHS Certificate of Competence in Asbestos or equivalent

The closing date for this role is 18th May 2026.
