Occupational Hygienist – Opportunity for Growth and Leadership

Gully Howard Technical

Are you an ambitious hygienist ready to take control of your career? Tired of being sent all over the country, driving endless miles for appointments you have no say in? Frustrated by a lack of control over your diary and limited opportunities to grow beyond technical work?

If you’re looking for a role where you can truly make your mark, expand your skills in both occupational hygiene and business development, and have the flexibility to shape your future, this could be the perfect opportunity for you!

About Us:

At Gully Howard Technical, we do things differently. We’re a training and consultancy firm that prioritises quality, balance, and sustainable growth. Our focus isn’t on rapid expansion but on ensuring profitability, fostering individual success, and maintaining a supportive, flexible working environment.

Location:

Preferably South of England, (all UK-wide locations considered).

The Role:

We’re looking for an experienced and motivated Occupational Hygienist or OH technician to join our team and help drive our department forward. This is a unique opportunity to work closely with our Director of Training & Operations, who will provide comprehensive support with marketing, business development, and identifying sales opportunities.

You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our Occupational Hygiene division, without the pressure of rigid KPIs. Instead, we’ll work with you to define meaningful measures of your contribution to the growth and profitability of the department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Client Engagement: Work with existing and historical clients to understand their needs and provide tailored solutions, building long-term relationships.
  • Service Delivery: Conduct technical assessments, prepare reports (with support for sign-offs from a certified hygienist & mentor), and deliver high-quality occupational hygiene services.
  • Business Development: Identify and act on sales opportunities in collaboration with the Director of Training & Operations, focusing on expanding our client base in the South of England. This is a skill you can develop into if it’s not something you’ve done before.
  • Professional Development: Represent us at industry events and conferences, including the BOHS annual conference, and support the development of future junior hygienists to help bridge the industry’s skills gap.
  • Future Planning: Lay the groundwork for a ‘conveyor belt’ of skilled hygienists by mentoring new talent as part of our long-term strategy.

What Makes Us Different:

  • Supportive Environment: Work closely with leadership who are invested in your success.
  • Flexible Approach: Prefer not to travel far for work? No problem – we believe there’s ample opportunity within the South of England.
  • Relocation Support for UK Candidates: If you’re currently based in the UK and considering a move to the South, we’re happy to assist with relocation to make the transition smoother.
  • Full Travel Expenses: We cover all work-related travel expenses, with the potential for further support such as a car allowance or company vehicle as the role grows.
  • Work-Life Balance: Flexible working arrangements to suit your lifestyle.
  • Growth Opportunities: Whether you aspire to develop new skills, step into a trainer role, or take on greater responsibility, we’ll support your journey.

Important Information:

We are not able to offer visa sponsorship for candidates seeking to relocate from overseas.

About You:

We’re looking for someone who’s driven, dynamic, and ready to make an impact. Ideally, you’ll have:

  • Relevant qualifications in Occupational Hygiene (e.g., working towards the BOHS Certificate of Operational Competence or equivalent, Degree in a related field).
  • At least 2-3 years of experience in a technical occupational hygiene role.
  • A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle.
  • A passion for building relationships and growing a business.
  • A desire to develop others and help bridge the industry’s skills gap.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to represent us confidently at events, and client sites.

Why Join Us?

  • Be part of a company that values your input and offers the freedom to shape your role.
  • Gain the satisfaction of seeing the direct impact of your work on our growth.
  • Access full support for your personal and professional development, including opportunities to evolve into a trainer role.
  • Enjoy a role with a focus on quality and flexibility, not just numbers.
