An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Estates and Facilities Division at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

We are looking to appoint a Group Asbestos Lead to ensure that the management of Asbestos Containing Materials to the whole of the Trust, including off-site properties, is provided in an efficient and compliant fashion.

Reporting ultimately to the Group Director of Estates and Facilities, the Group Asbestos Lead will directly report to the Group Compliance Manager, however work closely with Hospital Site Directors of Estates and Facilities; Asbestos Managers and Compliance Managers; Director of Estates and Facilities Development and all relevant managers and staff.

You will be responsible for providing expert professional advice on all matters relating to asbestos with the Trust; including providing specialised technical expertise, advice and training on asbestos to groups of staff in the Trust, including commercial partners, and advising on business cases and the procurement of services.

You will also be required to lead on the development and implementation of the Trust Asbestos Strategy, Group Asbestos Policy and Management Plan, and development of a Groupwide Asbestos Register.

The post holder will be expected to liaise with the Trust’s Property and Estates Development colleagues and Site Asbestos Managers to ensure investment in the management of asbestos across the Trust based on the priority of risk, and ensure that development schemes and lifecycle replacement of the estate and its infrastructure are carried out in a compliant and timely fashion in relation to any Asbestos Containing Materials.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience of asbestos assessment and management at a senior level working within a multi-disciplinary complex organisation in Asbestos Management and highly specialised knowledge of compliance with the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations and the Control of Asbestos Regulations. Excellent communication and organisational skills are required, along with proven problem-solving and influencing skills.

The successful candidate will further be able to meet deadlines, work independently and as a member of a team, and demonstrate flexibility, and will be responsible for directly managing the Group Asbestos Manager.
