Midlands Regional Webinar 31st August 2021

Date & Time: Tuesday 31st August 2021, 14.00-15.30

Programme: This webinar series advances the knowledge of a practising occupational hygienist on the application of statistical concepts and techniques.

In view of the known variability of occupational hygiene data sets, a small dataset is unlikely to generate data which reflects the full range of potential exposures. Furthermore, because of the inherent uncertainty and variability in these data, there are common pitfalls in interpreting the data, even among experienced occupational hygienists, and even when applying the guidance set forth in EN689. This webinar describes pitfalls as well as the strengths and limitations of EN689 as well as traditional statistical approaches and Bayesian statistics. Suggestions are offered to help decide which approach to use for a given data set. Approaches to dealing with data that come back below the analytical method’s limit of quantitation (LOQ) are also described.

Speakers:

Brent Altemose, Ph.D., CIH, CSP is a Principal Industrial Hygienist with the SafeBridge Regulatory & Life Sciences Group at Trinity Consultants. Since beginning his career as a ventilation engineer, he has worked for over 25 years in the fields of industrial hygiene and occupational safety. Dr. Altemose has particular expertise in exposure control, exposure assessment strategies and modeling, analysis of industrial hygiene data, local exhaust and laboratory ventilation, and indoor air quality.

We also have Jans Babkevics BSc (Hons), CertOH who will be demonstrating in action the IH-Stat, ExpoStats and IHDA tools. As well as describing each of their strengths and their weaknesses. Jans is a certified occupational hygienist working for Syngenta and is a final year student completing an MSc in Occupational Hygiene at the University of Manchester.
