Isocyanates: air sampling, the Group Authority Licence and a new isocyanate exposure research project
Part 1 discusses how the Group Authority Licence (GAL) and MDHS 25/4 fit together, and potential issues arising from the sampling.
Part 2 provides information for GAL users on a new BOHS research project. The objective of the project is to collate and analyse isocyanate exposure and associated control data from GAL users to allow the creation of leading indicators of isocyanate risk in UK industry.
Graham Newport has been practising as an Occupational Hygiene Consultant for over 30 years and acts as the interface between BOHS and the Home Office with respect to the Group Authority Licence (GAL).
Chris Keen is a Chartered Fellow of the Faculty of Occupational Hygiene working in HSE’s Science Division with 39 years experience in assessing and controlling hazardous substance risks across a range of industries. In recent times, she has worked on the UK Government’s PROTECT COVID-19 National Core Study on transmission and environment, and was part of the HSE PPE Taskforce that won the British Occupational Hygiene Society’s Peter Isaac award for ‘an outstanding initiative that has contributed to the reduction of ill health at work’. Chris was the president of the British Occupational Hygiene Society in 2022-23, and is currently on the FOH committee.
