Committees

A number of committees and sub-committees oversee the running of many of our day-to-day activities and services. Sub-committees may be temporary, set up on a project-by-project basis, or simply fledgling, with a view to permanence in the longer-term.

Membership Committee: Reviews services provided to members, proposes developments for consideration by Council and develops strategies for increasing membership, through two meetings a year.

Marketing Committee: A steering committee in support of our Communications Manager, which meets twice a year to review and develop the communications strategy.

Standards & Publications Committee: Ensures a relevant input to external bodies involved in the development of legislation, codes of practice, guidance and other standards related to occupational hygiene and health, and oversees BOHS publications.

Conference Committee: Develops and organises the programme for the Annual Conference, held in April each year, and is responsible for the on-going development of the longer-term strategy to maintain and strengthen our position as provider of the premier occupational hygiene conference in Europe. Approximately six meetings a year are held, to review the preceding conference and then to plan the next one.

Examinations Committee: Develops syllabuses for new qualifications in the field of occupational hygiene practice and ensures current syllabuses remain up-to-date and that standards of competence assessed by all of the Faculty’s qualifications are maintained, as well as overseeing the examinations appeals procedure, and ensuring all candidates are examined fairly.

Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) Committee: Provides guidance and oversight of the written examination process; in particular the generation and review of module syllabuses, the generation, review and validation of questions, and the provision of advice on regulatory and technical developments that may impact on elements of the examination process.

CPD Committee: Responsible for managing the CPD Scheme, developing and publishing the guidelines for participants and appraisers, auditing and reviewing the Scheme, and addressing participation issues.

Education Committee: Responsible for the development of an awareness and understanding of the profession of occupational hygiene among students (from secondary school age, through undergraduates to postgraduates) and within the workplace (employees and employers), and how best to develop resources and materials in support of this.
