North West England & North Wales

This region comprises a very large geographical area. We have a very keen organising team which meets four times a year and shares in arranging our events. We usually run regional meetings and seminars during Spring and Autumn, together with factory visits in Summer. Regional members also look forward to our Autumnal President-elect meeting, which is usually combined with MSc Project presentations at the University of Manchester. We are also always keen to run roadshows and open technical seminars.

Recent events have included site visits to European Airbus Wing Manufacturing in north Wales, the Kellogg's Factory in Wrexham, Jaguar cars and Anglesey Aluminium, a joint meeting with IOSH’s North West region on RPE face-fit testing in Cumbria, a passive smoking meeting held in Chester, an open technical seminar on biological agents, in Ellesmere Port , a joint meeting with the Institute of Lighting Engineers at the University of Salford on modern lighting standards, a hands-on seminar and workshop on Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) , last year's Autumn Hot Topics meeting, a meeting held at Manchester University entitled 'To Measure or Not To Measure', and a major seminar and exhibition run jointly with IOSH on managing occupational safety and health at Manchester City FC. (Presentations from these, where available, can be downloaded via the highlighted links.)

We aim to identify current hot topics for our meetings, and we believe that the range of events on offer should appeal to a wide range of people including, for example, health and safety students as well as our experienced professional hygienists who will be looking for CPD points.

We do tend to concentrate our activities on the Mersey basin and Greater Manchester areas where we expect a higher density of interested professionals, but each year we try to run at least one event in north Wales.  Any forthcoming events in this region will be included in the Event Calendar.

Bill Williams is the Regional Organiser.
