    This was the response from the Board of Directors of the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) on the successful defence of a long-running lawsuit brought against the association by the International Brominated Solvents Association (IBSA), the National Mining Association (NMA), Aerosafe Products, Inc., and Anchor Glass Container Products, Inc., which was announced in early May.

    New HSE guidance, Controlling airborne contaminants at work; a guide to local exhaust ventilation (HSG258), contains references to both of BOHS's LEV Proficiency Modules - 'P601 Initial Appraisal and Thorough Examination and Testing of Local Exhaust Ventilation Systems' and 'P602 Basic Design Principles of Local Exhaust Ventilation Systems'.

    We are delighted to announce funding for a research project to investigate vehicle operators’ exposure to dust and endotoxin in the composting sector and to evaluate current control measures. The research is being carried out by the Cardiff School of Health Sciences at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC), and this funding has been made available through the BOHS Research Funding Programme which offers up to £20,000 annually to support research in occupational hygiene and its underlying sciences and technology.

    We are delighted to announce that Sally Haw, Principal Public Health Advisor for NHS Scotland, is the 2007 winner of our 'Working for a Healthier Workplace - The Peter Isaac Award', for her lead role in devleoping and coordinating the Clean-air Legislation Evaluation (CLEAN) Collaboration to evaluate the health, social and economic impacts of smoke-free legislation in Scotland.
