We’re delighted to announce that Christina Jackson, studying for an MSc in Occupational & Environmental Health and Safety Management at the University of Portsmouth, is the latest recipient of the BOHS postgraduate bursary to cover one year’s tuition fee.

This brings to 16 the total number of bursaries awarded by BOHS since the launch of the scheme, all to students who would otherwise have had to fund themselves entirely. With free student membership of BOHS and an allocated mentor also part of the award, BOHS looks forward to mutually beneficial relationships with these excellent students at what is hopefully the start of their successful careers in occupational hygiene.
Christina Jackson currently works full time for a small occupational hygiene consultancy, Environmental Health Partnership Ltd, who has supported Christina in her studies, working on projects within the automotive and engineering industries. Christina studied for a BSc in Biotechnology and BCom in Management at Murdoch University in Perth, Western Australia, and has been living in the UK since 2005. She is also working her way through the BOHS Occupational Hygiene Modules, towards our Certificate of Operational Competence.
As part of her MSc at Portsmouth, Christina is already planning her final year occupational hygiene research project, expected to be complete in December 2011, on Hand-Arm Vibration and best practise for control of personal exposure. She is delighted to have received this bursary, and is confident of repaying the investment “by providing an invaluable piece of research that others within the industry will benefit greatly from; this will hopefully ensure that workplaces can be improved and the importance of occupational hygienists and their work is further promoted”.
Our postgraduate bursary scheme is for students wanting to gain a higher education qualification in Occupational Hygiene, with up to five bursaries awarded every year, each of up to £4,000 towards the payment of academic fees.
The closing date for the next round of applications is 30 June 2010.
