REACH

REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) came into force on 1st June 2007.  The overall goal of REACH is to ensure human health and the environment is not adversely affected by chemicals in the workplace and for consumers.  REACH changes the emphasis from employers carrying out assessments of human health exposure and environmental exposure to the manufacturer or importer.  In addition all chemicals within certain manufacturing tonnage limits need to be registered with the European  Chemicals Agency (EChA).

Occupational Hygienists have a fundamental role to provide advice and support regarding human health exposure.
