Application Process
Course Providers interested in applying to run BOHS Approved Courses can do so by completing the Application Form and Check List and sending it, and a letter of application along with the associated required information, by email to charlotte.collis@bohs.org
Existing BOHS Course Providers (eg. those running our Proficiency Modules and/or Occupational Hygiene Modules, or those already running any BOHS Approved Course) are not required to send documentation providing evidence of adequate company procedures for course management, but otherwise the application process is the same for new and existing providers.
Provisional Approval: Once the Stage 1 assessment [of the paper documentation requested on the Application Form & Check List] has been passed, Course Providers will be provisionally approved, issued with the 'BOHS Approved Course' logo for use on the course documentation and publicity, and can begin to run the course as a 'BOHS Approved Course'. You will also be provided with some supporting BOHS information, including brochures and introductory slides, for use on your course.
Full Approval: Usually within six months of Stage 1 approval, Course Providers will be assessed on-site whilst running the BOHS Approved Course. On successful completion of this Stage 2 assessment, Course Providers will automatically transfer to fully approved status which will remain valid for three years.
Full details can be found in our Terms of Engagement document for Course Providers. The pricing structure is available on request.
BOHS Approved Courses
1. LEV Awareness - download the Learning Outcomes against which your syllabus will be assessed in Stage 1; see the general information page on the website about this course.
2. Air Sampling - download the Learning Outcomes against which your syllabus will be assessed in Stage 1.
3. Asbestos Awareness - download the revised Learning Outcomes against which your syllabus will be assessed in Stage 1.
4. Legionella Awareness - download the Learning Outcomes against which your syllabus will be assessed in Stage 1.
5. Practical Management of LEV; see the page about this course for Learning Outcomes. To run the course, course providers will need to be competent in the LEV topics covered, and in order to provide the practical demonstrations that the course requires, they will need access to a variety of types of LEV and assessment equipment. This course is run in a collaborative approach - course materials are available from BOHS free of charge in return for commitment from course providers to share feedback and to run a minimum number of courses; contact Damian Stear (see contactact details below) for further information.
Submit your own courses for approval
If you run other courses covering basic occupational hygiene subjects, and which you would categorise as entry level or 'fundamentals' or awareness, then we would be delighted to consider an application to have the course included on our Approved Course Scheme. You can apply in exactly the same way, and BOHS will develop Learning Outcomes during the Stage 1 Assessment process to ensure your course syllabus can be measured against our basic requirements.
