BOHS is pleased to confirm that CL:AIRE has announced the publication of the Joint Industry Working Group Asbestos in Soil and Construction & Demolition (C & D) Materials guidance, entitled ‘Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012: Interpretation for Managing and Working with Asbestos in Soil and Construction & Demolition materials: Industry Guidance’ – abbreviated to CAR-SOILTM.
The guidance was prepared with the support of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), and the Joint Industry Working Group for Asbestos in Soil and Construction & Demolition Materials (JIWG). The JIWG membership included Colette Willoughby – representing BOHS – who helped review the document.
This important document provides the definitive explanation regarding how the legal requirements of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 have been interpreted, in order to be applicable to working with asbestos contaminated soil, and construction and demolition materials. Critically, the interpretation facilitates practical guidance that is fit for purpose, whilst also allowing compliance to be demonstrated.
The guidance document will be an extremely valuable resource for those practitioners working in the construction sector, who are concerned with managing and working with soil, and construction and demolition materials affected by asbestos. BOHS is currently developing a new asbestos qualification ‘P408, Identification of Asbestos in Soils (PLM)’, which will be the first in a suite of qualifications in the area of asbestos in soils. The current range of BOHS’ industry-leading asbestos qualifications can be viewed here.
