Biological Monitoring

Biological monitoring is a useful tool for occupational hygienists to assess exposure.  It looks at what gets past controls and into the body by all routes - dermal, ingestion as well as inhalation.  Biological monitoring can help to assess the efficacy of controls including how they are used in practice.  It is particularly useful where control relies on respiratory protection and where substances can be absorbed through the skin.
