A study by the Institute for Employment Studies (IES) into the Olympics Construction project has found that the benefits of employing occupational hygiene experts to help prevent ill health far outweigh the costs.
The research found that money was saved by minimising exposure to health risks and reducing the downtime associated with dealing with them.
The Olympic project’s “health like safety” approach helped managers, supervisors and workers embed ill-health prevention strategies into designs, method statements and risk assessments, and ensured workplace health management was on a par with safety.
